Dieter Meier, heir turned conceptual artist, joined up with Boris Blank to form the electronic synth group Yello in the late ’70s. It wasn’t until the late ’80s that they had their biggest success with the international hit “The Race”, which was used in advertisements and (sports) programs all over the world. Combining samples and beats with Meier’s deep and distinctive voice, and an whole slew of humorous and catchy videos, Yello became experts in combining the suave with the eclectic.
1989’s Flag contains the hit “The Race” next to a number of experiments on Afro-Cuban rhythms, such as on “Tied Up”.
Flag is available on audiophile vinyl and includes an insert.
