The conception of Sketches Of Spain can be placed in the ‘most melodic’ era of Miles Davis‘s work, being one of his most accessible and less improvisational albums which broke out of the constraints of Jazz as a genre.

Sketches Of Spain is one of four albums where Miles and Gil Evans collaborated with a small orchestra of horns and percussion. As the title suggests, the album fueled by Spanish melodies, most notably “El Concierto de Arajuez” by Joaquin Rodrigo, which takes up one entire side of the record.

Since its original release in 1960, Sketches of Spain has become one of Miles Davis‘ most celebrated and beloved albums, landing on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time list.

The Mono version of Sketches Of Spain is available on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
